PPL Motorhomes: Keeping Illness And Injury Away From Your Vacation

One of the things I think is the last thing on our mind before we take a road trip is getting sick or injured while traveling. At PPL Motorhomes, we’ve heard a few stories involving everything from cuts and bruises to hospital visits. Of course, you can prepare for most injuries or health care issues, so why don’t you?

As far as the cuts and bruises go, carrying along a decent First Aid Kit will be a Godsend when you loose your footing on that pine cone and twist your ankle, or your grandson decided to take the “shortcut” back to our RV through the thorny bushes (to his credit, he didn’t know they were there). You can get a fairly decent First Aid Kit at grocery stores, mega stores and pharmacies. They don’t take up much space, and when you are in an environment that has many hidden dangers, you’ll be glad you have one on hand. They are worth their weight in gold. Also, consider getting a dehydration pack. In the event of a stomach bug, this can come in really handy. Trust me, staying hydrated will really help you feel better and aid on your road to a quicker recovery time.

In regards to health issues, it’s wise to map out any emergency/non-life threatening care facilities along your route. You never can tell when you pick up a serious cold or virus that will all but shut down your vacation. There is nothing worse than being stuck inside your RV because you have not taken the extra precautions in mapping out places you can go for some health assistance. The bottom line is that you will be in contact with a bunch of different people and disease can be easy spread among us all quite easily. Make sure you carry anti-septic handy wipes with you for use in community restrooms, or campground facilities. As much as I hate to admit it, most of the time, they aren’t the most germ free environments.

Staying healthy on the road isn’t that difficult. You can take the proper precautions to handle many illness and injuries with a trip to Wal-Mart and a Google search for emergency facilities along your route. Of course, you can’t prevent all accidents, injuries or illnesses, but you can protect yourself a little more proactively when vacationing.

If you have any other tips on staying in good health while RVing, drop PPL Motorhomes a line and tell us how you stay healthy on the road.
