Great Destinations: Tyler State Park

There’s something very calming about East Texas. Maybe it’s the trees, or the slower pace of living that happens out there. If you are looking to get away from it all for a few days, maybe even a week, then you really can’t go wrong with East Texas. Plenty of pine trees, lakes to take your jet skis out on, open land to take your ATV for a spin, open roads to take your motorcycle for a Sunday drive to nowhere in particular. One of the most popular parks in East Texas is Tyler State Park.

If you’re an outdoor nut, then you’ll be glad to know that there are over 13 miles of hiking trails to get your exercise in and explore the Piney Woods. If you’re so inclined, you can take your mountain bike out for a spin and see some great views of the lake and surrounding wooded areas.

For the fisherman in your family, they’ll be glad to know that there are plenty of crappie, perch, catfish and bass in the lake, just waiting for you to catch out of the 64 acre, spring-fed lake. You can fish off of one of the 3 piers or set your boat adrift and head to the middle of the lake for less competition.

For all of us RVers, there are plenty of spaces available for our rigs that include electricity, sewer and water, but you should probably call ahead in advance, this time of year is usually the busiest and if you don’t make reservations, you may end up searching for a boondocking spot or one of the RV parks a couple of miles away.

Next time you’re considering where you want to take your next vacation, consider Tyler State Park. You won’t regret it!
