Fall Foliage In Texas!

I know it’s hot out there, but don’t worry, relief is coming! Autumn will be here before you know it and we’ll all be able to go outside without sweating to the point of dripping off of our heads and arms. Once fall gets here we get to experience one of the most wonderful things to happen for nature-lovers: the changing of the colors. Fall is a great time to get your RV out of the driveway and take it to somewhere you’ve never been and admire the yellows, golds and reds that come out after it’s cooled off a little bit. Here are some of the best places in Texas to visit once we get out of Summer.

East Texas

I’ve written about Tyler State Park in the past, and that’s always a good start, but there’s so much more to explore in the wooded East Texas lands. Start looking for smaller cities that are surrounded by forestry. Cities like Lumberton, Grapeland, Marshall, Pittsburg and Rusk all have a lot to offer when it comes to seeing the colors change. There are plenty of lakes and you’re never too far away from a great BBQ joint to get a good rack of ribs.

Hill Country

Any area that has vineyards is a great Fall vacation spot, not only because of the wine, but because of the sights! To make quality wines, you have to have nutrient-rich soil that is also a perfect location for some colorful changes in the trees. Maples, sumacs, chinaberries and cottonwoods are everywhere you look, so you you can enjoy a glass of wine AND take in the sights of Fall. Sounds like a winner to me!

West Texas

One of the best places to visit in huge expanse of  West Texas is McKittrick Canyon, about 100 miles east of El Paso. If you’re looking to get out of civilization and enjoy some peace and quiet, this is the place to do it. Being surrounded by bigtooth maple, walnut, ash, oak, and the Texas madrone trees while they are changing colors will only make it even more worthwhile.
